Our young Pharmacists have achieved so much already including clinical diplomas with distinction and Maree is now and Independent Prescriber. They have both won awards in their own right and as part of the wider team for their individual contribution to the experience of the families we serve.
Maree is now and Independent Prescriber and now can work to support more people with a wider scope of practice. She won Pharmacist of the Year because of this type of work.
We are very proud to work with our local GP practices and we are able to assess and triage the public in many more minor illness presentations to encourage the public to choose PHARMACY FIRST. There are limited appointments and less GPs in the town now and so we hope to continue and grown the types of services we can offer the public of Glenrothes.
We were awarded this prestigious award in June 2019 in London.

These are the judges’ comments:
“Over 10 years Cadham Pharmacy has undergone a transformation. From its humble beginnings, it has shifted focus from dispensing and retail to independent prescribing, becoming a visionary pharmacy health centre.
It started with owner Bernadette Brown’s “dream” to use her independent prescribing skills to make the public “choose pharmacy first for health advice and minor illness”.
Ms Brown’s pharmacy transformation began with making the premises look and feel clinical, before relaunching in 2017 without any retail shelves.
Today, the pharmacy offers follow-up consultations, online bookings, and a walk-in health centre hub for NHS services, as well as a travel clinic, aesthetics centre and a partnership with a local nurse.
In that time, Ms Brown’s team has grown from five to 21, among them two “clinical” pharmacists, and her partner – not to mention four dispensing robots.
The pharmacy received an “excellent” inspection rating from the GPhC for innovative practice, which Ms Brown says shows that community pharmacies “can and should be delivering advanced care in the community”.
I could not have imagined in my wildest dreams that a small Independent pharmacy in the North of Glenrothes could have achieved this and it is a team effort all round. I am so lucky to have such an amazing team of people who work so very hard every day and have embraced the technology we use to support safety as well as care.
