Why do I need a Covid PCR test in Glenrothes, Fife to travel abroad?
Covid PCR tests are an entry requirement for many countries you may be travelling to. This is because they provide proof of a negative Covid result via a Fit to Fly certificate. Before you travel, you should make sure you stay up-to-date with the requirements of your destination country. This also applies to any necessary vaccinations, as you will need to have them as early as possible before you travel to give your body a chance to develop immunity.

Some countries accept Fit to Fly certificates from Rapid Antigen tests as proof of a negative result.

PCR tests for returning to England
Additionally, PCR testing is also required within the Government guidelines for those returning to England. If you are fully vaccinated, you must take a Covid test on day 2 after you return to the UK. You must also fill out a passenger locator form. You are also required to isolate until you get back a negative result.
If your test comes back positive, you must follow up-to-date guidance surrounding testing and self-isolation.
Alternatively, if you are not fully vaccinated, you must take both a day 2 and day 8 test. You must also isolate for the full 10 days, as well as filling out your form.
What is the difference between Rapid Antigen & PCR testing?
Rapid antigen testing produces results in a matter of minutes (usually 15-30 minutes). This method is also used for daily testing by workplaces and individuals for peace of mind. However, you will need a Fit to Fly certificate to travel using this test.
PCR testing stands for Polymerase Chain reaction, which analyses the viral RNA (ribonucleic acid) in your cells. PCR testing is more detailed and gives a more reliable result. The rate at which the results come back depends on your provider and their laboratory.
